Investigation is ongoing, children hospitalized in critical condition following deadly accident

Officials report a woman was killed and three children suffered major injuries on Saturday morning after a traffic accident on the 5 Freeway near the 210 Freeway interchange in Sylmar, according to a local ABC7 news article.

The two-vehicle collision occurred on Saturday morning on the southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 Freeway near the 210 Freeway interchange, said Los Angeles Fire Department.  It was unclear from the report how the traffic accident occurred, or who was the driver at fault, however it was reported that a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her identity was withheld from the report pending the notification of next-of-kin.

Additionally, fire officials said an 8-year-old from the deceased woman’s vehicle sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  Two other children from her vehicle were listed in “fair condition.”

Furthermore, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol reported that the occupants of the second vehicle were uninjured, according to the article.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.

Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
