1 killed, 1 injured after deadly pedestrian accident on Mira Mesa Boulevard and Marbury Avenue

According to an article from ABC 10 News, on Thursday morning in San Diego, there was a woman who was killed and another man injured after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Mira Mesa Boulevard and Marbury Avenue.

Reportedly, a Honda sedan was headed eastbound on Mira Mesa Boulevard shortly after 6:00 a.m. when it ran a red light at the busy Mira Mesa intersection.

Two pedestrians were struck as a result of the driver running the light, officials said.

San Diego Police arrived at the scene shortly after along with emergency personnel.  The 59-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by medical examiners, and the other victim, a 64-year-old man, was transported to Scripps La Jolla hospital.  Sources say that the man suffered serious head injuries and a broken femur.

A witness at the scene told investigators that the victims were thrown into the air and the woman landed a distance away and died on impact.  She stated in the article that she thought the man had died as well.

Police stated that the driver of the Honda sedan, a 26-year-old man, remained at the scene for questioning.

Reportedly, witnesses say that the Mira Mesa Boulevard intersection is almost as busy as a freeway, and that many people have nearly been struck by a vehicle there.

The investigation remains underway and authorities will release more information regarding the accident at a later time.
