Victim passes away in local hospital after fatal traffic collision

According to a recent news article from the Victor Valley Daily Press, Wanda Iris Romero was killed when a Toyota Tacoma truck collided head-on with a Chevy Tahoe on Old Highway 58 in Barstow.

As mentioned in the article, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Division officials identified the victim who passed away in the hospital as Wanda Iris Romero, a 57-year-old Helendale resident.

The crash occurred just after 1:00 p.m. in the 25700 block of Old Highway 58 where Romero was the passenger in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, according to the article.  The truck traveled west on Old Highway 58 before it collided with a Chevy Tahoe attempting to turn left.

As a result, the Tahoe turned directly into the path of the Tacoma, and Romero became trapped within the truck after the crash.

Additionally, sources say it took 40 minutes for the authorities to free the victim from her vehicle.  Paramedics transported Romero to Barstow Community Hospital in critical condition, officials said.

Currently, the traffic collision is being investigated by the authorities, and further information will be relayed at a later time.
