2 injured in fatal car crash on Highway 99

A fatal car crash took place on Friday morning on Highway 99 south of East Hamilton Road, leaving one driver dead and Ryan Woodson hospitalized as a result, according to a recent article from the ChicoER News.

As mentioned, the accident occurred just before 6:00 a.m. south of East Hamilton Road when a 28-year-old Oroville driver in a stolen Honda Accord started drifting into opposite lanes of traffic.

The stolen Honda went into the direct path of a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban and a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup and struck both vehicles.  The trailer attached to the Suburban was detached and landed in a ditch on the side of the roadway.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Ryan Woodson, 36, of Auburn was injured as a result, as well as Guillermo Hernandez, 38, of Gridley, who was in the Ford Ranger.

Additionally, the driver of the stolen Honda suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, said CHP.

Authorities reportedly located illegal drugs in the Honda, and it is believed that drug influence played a major part in the collision.

Currently, this incident is under review in an ongoing investigation by the authorities, and further details will be reviewed and released to the public as it is determined.
