Local pastor is killed after being struck in a drunk driving car accident on Christmas Day

Pastor Moises Lucas Garo was killed and his passengers were injured after they were struck in a car accident with a drunk driver identified as Brent Spears on Snow Rd and Jenica St in Bakersfield on Christmas Day, according to a news article from Kern Golden Empire.

65-year-old Moises Lucas Garo was attempting an unsafe U-turn in his 2000 Pontiac minivan, said the news release, before he and his four passengers were struck by a 2002 Ford truck.

As mentioned in the article, 46-year-old Brent Spears, a Bakersfield resident, was approaching from behind the minivan before he struck the left side of the minivan.

Authorities responded to the accident and transported Garo to Kern Medical where he died of his fatal injuries, said the Kern County coroner.

Additionally, the other occupants in the van were identified as 72-year-old Lydia Garo, 19-year-old Kenneth Garo, as well as a 10-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl, reported the article.

Furthermore, authorities arrested Spears for a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.
