At least nine injured in a car collision at West Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles
According to ktla.com, at least nine victims were injured on Sunday afternoon when a van plowed into a crowd of people at West Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles.
As mentioned in the article, the authorities responded to a report at 3:47 p.m. Sunday about a collision at 5088 W. Pico Boulevard near The Fish Spot restaurant.
The vehicle involved in the incident allegedly swerved to avoid a vehicle but jumped on the curb and drove into a fence. The car continued and struck several pedestrians in front of the restaurant, stated the witnesses.
Additionally, the witnesses report that the driver thought he could make a red light but the traffic had already begun moving in the other lanes. As a result the driver swerved the other way and injured the group of pedestrians.
The initial report stated that there were seven injured victims but was quickly changed after discovering there were nine total patients from the accident.
Reportedly, a 44-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Three victims, a 18-year-old woman, 28-year-old woman, and a 30-year-old man, were said to have been seriously injured and was transported to a nearby hospital. Four other victims were transported to a nearby hospital in a fair condition, officials state.
The Los Angeles Police Department reports that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was later caught and arrested on account of hit and run. The driver was then transported to a nearby hospital due to medical distress.
It is unclear if alcohol, drugs or speeding were involved in the factor of the collision but the authorities have not ruled them out.
