Bicyclist run over Wednesday morning by a garbage truck in Bakersfield dead

According to Bakersfieldnow.com, Michael Yunk, 64, was run over by a garbage truck Wednesday morning in the alley off the 200 block of Jefferson Street while he was riding on his bicycle.

Police officers reported that Yunk was attempting to pass the sanitation truck when he lost control of his bicycle and fell in front of the truck. The truck driver did not notice the cyclist had fallen in his path and drove the truck over him.

According to Kern County coroner’s office, on Thursday, Michael Yunk, who was transported to a hospital in critical condition later passed away from his injuries.
