Drunken driver arrested after crashing into tree, injuring 3 passengers

According to a recent article from Bakersfieldnow.com, Michael Payne was arrested on Sunday after driving into a tree while drunk, causing injury to three people on Highway 178 near Mt. Vernon Avenue.

As mentioned in the article, the 53-year-old driver involved in the single vehicle crash was identified as Michael Payne.  Payne was allegedly driving under the influence when he crashed his vehicle into a tree on Highway 178 near Mt. Vernon Avenue, said sources.

CHP mentions that the accident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Reportedly, the passengers sustained moderate to major injuries, and weren’t wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.  Sources said that they were ejected from the vehicle.

Payne fled the scene after the accident, but was arrested shortly after.

It was not mentioned whether or not the passengers were transported to a local hospital or not.
