21-year-old mother and 5-year-old son killed in suspected drunk driving car accident involving Daniel Mejia

According to a recent article from the Kern Golden Empire, there was a major car crash that took place in Bakersfield on Friday, November 25th on the southbound 99 Freeway just north of Taft Highway.

The accident took place at about 4:16 p.m. when Juan Rodriguez Garcia was traveling with his family on the busy highway when he pulled over to change a flat tire on his Jeep.

The Redlands driver, Mejia, drove his black Chevy Silverado at a high rate of speed into the back of the family’s Jeep, according to CHP.

Authorities reported that the Jeep rolled over a few times before it caught fire crashing into the center divider.

As a result, the five-year-old boy, Emiliano, died at the scene, and his mother, Karla, 21, as well as his three-year-old sister Zoe Mendoza, both sustained major to moderate injuries.

Later news sources verified that both the mother Karla as well as her son were killed as a result of the accident.

Authorities arrived at the scene to treat the injured parties and arrested Mejia, who was allegedly found driving drunk.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation by the authorities and additional information will be reported at a later date.
