SR-76 closed in both directions for hours after fatal car wreck

Henry Clarke was identified as the driver of a red corvette that crashed head-on with a tractor-trailer on Friday afternoon on SR-76 near Magee Road in Pala, according to a news report from NBC San Diego.

Authorities responded to an car accident involving a tractor-trailer and a red Corvette near the Pala Casino Spa & Resort on the State Route 76 at about 4:40 p.m.

The two vehicles collided after the driver of the 1991 Chevrolet Corvette drifted across double yellow lines, according to the article, and crashed head-on into the truck.

As a result, the truck immediately burst into flames, although reports indicate that the driver of the tractor-trailer, 52-year-old Jose Solorio from Sun City escaped on his own without any injury.

Clarke, the 44-year-old Escondido man, was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities stated the red Corvette was barely recognizable, mangled and wrecked.

Currently, this incident is under review in an ongoing investigation by the authorities, and further details will be reviewed and released to the public as it is determined.
