Overturned trailers in semi-truck crash causes injuries to one driver near drawbridge

At least one person suffered serious injuries after a big rig truck accident occurred on Monday morning on Highway 12 by the Mokelumne River Bridge in Bouldin Island where a cement truck overturned and struck vehicles in congested traffic, according to a local news source.

The report stated the crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 5th when vehicles were stopped in traffic on Highway 12.  Police said that a driver of a big-rig semi truck hauling cement was traveling at about 50 to 60 miles per hour when he approached the congested drawbridge entrance.  The driver turned his wheel hard, realizing he would not be able to stop in time for the traffic and in an attempt to avoid a collision, he caused the trailers to jackknife and overturn onto the right shoulder, said the article.

Two other vehicles were caught up in the crash, however, and sustained extensive damages following the accident.  Identified as a Ford Mustang and a Chevrolet Camaro, both vehicles were hauled away from the scene on flatbed tow trucks.

CHP reported that the driver of the Ford suffered injuries, although his current medical condition was not listed in the article, nor was his identity.

Furthermore, traffic lanes were closed down for about fifteen minutes as CHP authorities were clearing the roadway of the overturned trailers.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.

Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
