Three dead in a southbound 101 Highway car crash near Seaward Avenue

According to ktla.com, a car crash occurred on Thursday morning resulting in three dead victims at the southbound 101 Highway near the Seaward Avenue exit.

Authorities report the head-on collision began a little after 12:01 a.m. Thursday at the southbound 101 Highway near the exit to Seward Avenue when a vehicle was being driven on the wrong way at the speeds of approximately 100 mph.

The speeding vehicle resulted in a car collision that killed all who occupied the two vehicles involved in the incident: Three occupants and a dog.

Brandon Thompson, 25, and Rachel Cline, 28, and their dog, “Peeps”, was in the vehicle with the right of way on the southbound 101 highway when the wrong way driver hit them, sources said.

Additionally, Thompson’s uncle said they were coming home from Ventura from spending the day together when the collision happened.

The California Highway Patrol officials have identified the deceased wrong-way driver as a 34-year-old man from Santa Paula, the article cited.

As mentioned in the article, witnesses driving on the northbound 101 Highway helped track the driver as it sped in his dangerous route.

As a result, officials report Brandon and Rachel had little to no chance of avoiding the crash due to the extremity of the situation.

The name of the wrong way driver was not mentioned in the article, pending the notification of next-of-kin.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash but have not ruled out the possibility.

The California Highway Patrol will be handling the investigation and further details will be updated as they are available.
