Hit-and-run driver crashes into local bicyclist in Park West neighborhood

A 44-year-old bicyclist suffered major injuries, including multiple brain bleeds and a broken jaw, after being hit by a driver who fled the scene afterwards in Bankers Hill, San Diego on early Sunday on First Avenue near West Ivy Street, according to a recent article from the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Reports indicate that the accident first began at about 2:20 a.m., according to the San Diego police.  The unidentified, 44-year-old bicyclist was traveling south in the northbound traffic lanes of First Avenue near West Ivy Street when he was struck head-on by a vehicle.

According to the article, the driver of the vehicle did not remain behind at the scene but instead fled, reportedly headed north on First Avenue.  Authorities did not give any description of the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle.

Additionally, the bicyclist suffered “multiple brain bleeds and a broken jaw,” said sources.  The victim was transported to a local hospital with their life-threatening injuries, and is being treated.

Currently, this incident is under review in an ongoing investigation by the authorities, and further details will be reviewed and released to the public as it is determined.
