Fatal crash between box truck and Jeep leaves one man dead in Tehama County

On March 6, Tuesday morning, a 21-year-old man was killed in a deadly accident between a Jeep and a box truck on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Gyle Road in Gerber, CA, said a local news article.

According to the news release, California Highway Patrol responded to the car accident at around 3:40 a.m. just north of Gyle Road near Corning, where they confirmed that one person was killed.

Upon further investigation, it was reported that an unidentified 21-year-old man was driving a 2017 Jeep, traveling in the northbound lanes of traffic.  The driver struck a guardrail at an undetermined rate of speed, losing control.  The car swerved before coming to rest in the right lane of the highway.

Simultaneously, a box truck was traveling northbound on the highway and was not able to stop in time, crashing into the Jeep, said officials.  As a result, the driver of the Jeep died on scene.  The identity of the deceased victim was withheld from the news release, pending the notification of next-of-kin.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.

Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
