17-year-old girl killed in fatal Downtown Riverside car wreck

A 17-year-old girl was killed after being involved in a car crash on Market Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets in Riverside, CA, according to a local news article.

The crash occurred at about 4:50 a.m. on Market Street in between Second and Third streets, said Riverside Police Department.

Police officers said that the victim was the front seat passenger of a Honda Civic that crashed into a tree.

The driver was identified as an 18-year-old Riverside teenager who lost control of his vehicle, officials said.  Moreover, the girl was reportedly trapped inside the crumpled vehicle.

Additionally, the teenage girl was extricated via industrial saws, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her name was withheld from the news article, pending the notification of next-of-kin.

Reports indicate, however, that the driver was possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  Their name was also not immediately released, the article said.

Currently, this incident is under review in an ongoing investigation by the authorities, and further details will be reviewed and released to the public as it is determined.
