California can be a dangerous place for pedestrians. Statistics indicate that our state is at or near the top for the number of fatal pedestrian crashes that take place annually. Over a period of several years, California has averaged about 1,000 pedestrian deaths per year.
Many pedestrian accidents are avoidable if not for the negligence of another motorist. When a pedestrian is in a crosswalk or marked area, they are presumed to have the right of way to cross in most cases. When a crash occurs in a crosswalk, the victim may have a legal right to bring an action to recover for their injuries. In a California pedestrian crash, those injuries can be catastrophic and irreversible.
