Oxnard, CA – Child Killed & 2 Injured in Pedestrian Crash Near School on Cooper Rd

Oxnard, CA (September 30, 2019) – An 8-year-old child was killed in a pedestrian accident that also injured one other child and an adult female on Monday morning, September 30th, in Oxnard. The incident occurred at Cooper Road and Anita Avenue, just outside of Ramona Elementary School at around 7:40 a.m.

The three victims were heading to the school when they were struck by a van while walking in the crosswalk. Witnesses rushed over to assist the victims and found the 8-year-old child unresponsive. Emergency crews rushed to the scene where they pronounced the child deceased.

A 9-year-old girl and her mother who were also hit by the van suffered serious injuries but are expected to survive. The driver, identified only as a 17-year-old girl, remained at the scene and cooperated with police. The accident is under investigation.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recoveries.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California

Due to the extreme vulnerability of the victim at the time of impact, pedestrians are at a higher risk of suffering serious or even fatal injuries during an accident with a motor vehicle. In fact, pedestrian accidents in California have been reported to make up 11 percent of all California motor vehicle accident deaths.

Unfortunately, fatal accidents can occur at any time, subsequently leaving loved ones with not only the pain and suffering of losing a family member but extremely high expenses as well. While it may be difficult, it is important for both victims or a bereaved family to understand that they likely have significant rights at this time.
