North Hills, CA (October 21, 2019) – Police have identified a bicyclist who was sadly struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Friday, October 18th, as 56-year-old Joel Fisher. The fatal accident happened at around 8:23 p.m. at the intersection of Rayen Street and Woodley Avenue in the North Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The 21-year-old driver of a southbound vehicle hit Fisher and immediately stopped to assist him. Unfortunately, a second vehicle, described as a black four-door sedan was unable to stop and struck the victim a second time. The sedan did not stop to offer any help and fled the scene.
Emergency responders arrived at the collision site where they rushed Fisher to a nearby hospital. He ultimately succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
We would like to offer our condolences to the family of Joel Fisher at this time.
The vast percentage of bicyclists who were killed in auto-related accidents were males over the age of 40, as was found in a 2016 study. However, regardless of age or gender, bicycle accidents in California have a tendency to lead to catastrophic or even fatal injuries simply because of the lack of protection in place for cyclists.
Serious and even fatal accidents can occur at any time, leaving victims and their loved ones with not only pain and suffering but extremely high expenses as well. While it may be difficult, it is important to understand that you may likely have significant rights at this time.
