Newport Beach, CA (February 14, 2020) – At least one person was hurt following a collision between a Chevrolet Suburban and a UC Irvine student transportation van on Wednesday night, February 12th. The collision was reported at around 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of Irvine Avenue and Bristol Street in Newport Beach.
Officials stated that the SUV may have run through a red light when it struck the van that was crossing at the intersection. Emergency responders arrived at the scene where they attended to all those who were involved in the crash.
Paramedics rendered aid to the driver of the van and three passengers who were on board, including two students and a professor. One of the passengers was ultimately taken to a trauma center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The operator of the Suburban was hospitalized with minor injuries.
The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
