Los Angeles, CA (August 24, 2019) – A pregnant woman who was killed in a hit-and-run earlier this month has been identified by authorities. Police say that 45-year-old Veronica Hernandez was the victim in an August 4th crash that occurred on Alondra Boulevard.
Police say that Hernandez was taking recyclables from a container on Alondra, near Orchard Avenue, when she was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene immediately after hitting Hernandez. Witnesses describe the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to the crash. Hernandez was thrown 30 to 40 feet by the impact. When rescue workers arrived on the scene, they transported her to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police are looking for a BMW 5-Series in connection with the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department at 213-822-6005. No further information is available at this time.
There are over 700 fatal pedestrian crashes reported annually in California, making our state one of the most dangerous in the nation for pedestrians. When a pedestrian crash occurs, the injuries sustained are often severe and require hospitalization and long-term medical care. In the worst-case scenario, the accident turns fatal and family members are forced to deal with the sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one.
If your loved one has been taken in a California pedestrian crash, you may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim.
