Los Angeles, CA (December 19, 2019) – A 60-year-old man whose identity has not been released, sadly died following an early morning auto-pedestrian collision in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The accident happened at around 5:20 a.m. at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Douglas Street.
Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department stated that the man was struck by a possibly dark blue Honda or Hyundai while walking at or near the intersection. The driver of the vehicle, which is believed to have dark-tinted windows, fled the area after the crash.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene where the victim tragically succumbed to his injuries. Authorities continue to search for the vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation into this incident.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the victim at this time.
Authorities have gathered nationwide data which shows that a pedestrian is hit and killed by a motor vehicle nearly every two hours in the United States. Moreover, pedestrian accidents in California were found to account for approximately 11% of all traffic accident-related deaths throughout the state. Unfortunately, these types of collisions are frequent, and they are often caused by a mix of inattentive or criminal drivers, as well as the immense helplessness of the victim at the time of impact.
