Long Beach, CA – Velton Johnson Killed in Auto-Pedestrian Collision on E 7th St

Long Beach, CA (March 20, 2020) – Police have released the identity of a man who was struck and killed by a motor vehicle in Long Beach. The fatal accident claimed the life of 37-year-old Velton Jermaine Johnson after he was hit by a car on East 7th Street, in the vicinity of Ultimo Avenue.

According to officials with the Los Angeles Police Department, Johnson was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by an unspecified vehicle that fled the scene at around 10:00 p.m. The impact of the collision threw Johnson into the eastbound lane where he was then hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Responding paramedics pronounced Johnson deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as a 61-year-old woman from Long Beach, remained at the scene to cooperate with authorities. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
