Long Beach, CA (September 28, 2019) – The pedestrian who was killed in a crash in Long Beach this past week on Wednesday, September 25th around 10:35 a.m. has been identified by authorities.
Police responded to the scene at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Santa Fe Avenue in response to reports of the crash. When authorities arrived, they found 55-year-old Robert O’Brien of Long Beach lying in the roadway. O’Brien was walking westbound before the crash when he entered the street and was struck by a tractor-trailer that was traveling eastbound on Anaheim Street.
O’Brien was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of Robert O’Brien.
There are more than 700 reported pedestrian fatalities in California each year. California ranks among the highest in the nation for reported fatal pedestrian accidents. Unfortunately, pedestrians are always at risk when they are on the streets and highways in our state.
When a pedestrian crash occurs, a close investigation of the accident scene must be undertaken by investigators. Police will examine the crash site, take measurements, and look at all the physical evidence in an effort to determine how the accident took place. Ultimately, a decision will then be made as to how the accident took place and the appropriate party can be held responsible.
