Long Beach, CA – Update on fatal Pedestrian Crash at Country Club Dr & Los Cerritos Park Pl

Long Beach, CA (November 4, 2019) – Police have released further information regarding the tragic and fatal pedestrian collision that occurred last Thursday, October 31st in Long Beach. Initial reports stated that two were injured and one killed but authorities have now confirmed that two were killed and one injured in the Los Cerritos accident.

According to authorities, 20-year-old Carlo Navarro was operating a 2002 Toyota Sequoia southbound on Country Club Drive when he struck three pedestrians at the intersection with Los Cerritos Park Place. The incident took place at around 10:00 p.m.

Joseph Awaida, 30, Raihan Dakhil, 32, and Awaida’s Three-year-old son were all struck in the incident. Both Awaida and his son were killed in the collision. Dakhil suffered several broken bones and severe spinal injuries. Her current condition was not reported.

Navarro was arrested on charges of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. The incident remains under investigation.
