Long Beach, CA (September 16, 2019) – On Sunday night, September 15th, a 90-year-old man was tragically struck and killed by a motor vehicle. The incident took place a little before 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Willow Street and La Vere Drive.
Police stated that the victim was walking northbound across the roadway when he was struck by a white Toyota Tacoma. The driver of that vehicle was traveling west along Willow Street and did not stop at the scene.
Paramedics accompanied law enforcement officials to the site of the incident and promptly transported the victim to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim. Police continue to search for the hit-and-run driver as part of their investigation into this incident.
We would like to extend our condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
According to reports, a pedestrian is struck and killed by a motor vehicle approximately every two hours. And pedestrian accidents in California are reported to make up 11% of all motor vehicle accident deaths in the state. These statistics are oftentimes due to the extreme vulnerability of the victim at the time of impact, which leaves pedestrians at a higher risk of suffering serious or even fatal injuries.
Deadly accidents can occur at any time, resulting in not only the pain and suffering of losing a family member but the burden of extremely high expenses as well. While it may be difficult, it is important for bereaved family members to understand that they have substantial rights at this time.
