Lake Elsinore, CA – Carolyn Leak Critically Hurt in Friday Crash on I-15

Lake Elsinore, CA (February 22, 2020) – A 79-year-old woman suffered critical injuries in a crash that took place along I-15 in Lake Elsinore. The crash was reported around 11:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-15.

According to authorities with the California Highway Patrol, Carolyn Leak was driving a 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK in the right-hand lane of I-15. Police say that 45-year-old Melissa Brasington was driving a 2017 Subaru Forester in the same direction on I-15 when, for unknown reasons, Brasington’s vehicle drifted into Leak’s lane and struck her vehicle. Brasington’s Subaru then drifted off of the road, went up an embankment and collided with a sign pole. Leak’s vehicle rolled over, ejecting her from the driver’s seat.

Rescue workers with the Riverside County Fire Department responded to the scene and transported Leak to Inland Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Brasington was also taken to Inland Valley with serious injuries.

The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time and an investigation is ongoing.

We send our thoughts to those hurt in this crash and hope for a quick recovery.
